Dev Log Update v0.27
Final Update: The End of Go Deep Or Go Home, and the Rise of Crown of Kings
It’s been about a year since Go Deep Or Go Home launched on Steam, and I haven’t posted any updates here on itch.io since then. That’s because things have changed—quite a lot, actually. After much thought, I’ve decided that this will be the final version of Go Deep Or Go Home available on itch.io. The game is getting a new name and a new direction: from here on, it will be known as Crown of Kings.
It’s taken me a long time to truly understand what this project is meant to be. What started as a fun little experiment—something light, fast, and dungeon-focused—has grown into something much bigger. Crown of Kings represents a major evolution in both design and storytelling. It ties into ideas I’ve worked on for years and brings a personal sense of purpose that Go Deep never fully captured. The old title served me well as a prototype, but it no longer reflects the game’s ambition or tone. So this is the end of Go Deep Or Go Home—and the beginning of something much greater.
I’ll leave this itch.io page up as an archive, a final resting place for the original version. If you're interested in where the project is headed, please check out the Steam page for Crown of Kings. It’s the same core game, but with a deeper narrative, structured progression, and long-term goals that finally bring the whole vision together.
This update marks version 0.27. If you’ve been following previous dev logs here, you might notice that I skipped over a few builds. That’s mostly because I’ve been focused on Steam development and honestly, I almost forgot about itch.io entirely. But this final update feels like the right way to wrap things up.
Go Deep Or Go Home is a fully playable dungeon crawler with procedurally generated dungeons, solid core mechanics, and a lot of atmosphere—but it lacks story, cutscenes, and a proper ending. That’s all changing with Crown of Kings. The full version will span three Acts, each introducing new gameplay strategies and content. Some of what you see in version 0.27 will remain, but much will evolve as the game continues to take shape under its new name.
Thanks for following the journey this far. I hope you’ll stick around for the next chapter.
